Digital Kiosk
Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism
The Problem:
Abu Dhabi doesn't necessarily have the greatest image in terms of being a hotspot of exciting things to do and see and this is no way due to lack thereof but rather lack of education and exposure.  Thousands of tourists transit through this incredible city with lengthy transit stays and due to lack of information they tend to miss out on all that Abu Dhabi has to offer.
How do we inspire and motivate tourists to go out and explore this magnanimous city? From standing at the luggage carousel at the airport, to wandering the transit halls, how do we use the world of digital to inspire and motivate travelers to take deep dive into the magical wonders of Abu Dhabi.

My Role:
One of my first projects at Publicis Sapient, I worked side by side with another designer to bring this project to life. I was in charge of managing the designs and presented them in partnership with the other designer on the team. I worked closely with the project manager and with the developers Paravision, a team well-versed in Kiosk Development.

The Year:
2019

The Solution:
Using Kiosks placed in three critical areas of the city: airport arrivals, airport transit halls and in and around the city at strategically-located tourism spots. Knowing tourists and the scattered access information when traveling abroad how do we surface content for the user to feel supported and guided throughout their journey in Abu Dhabi? A kiosk where users could explore restaurants, hotels, things to do, curated itineraries and find out critical information like Abu Dhabi etiquette.
Pushing unique Emirati experiences curated by DCT themselves. Payment and booking would not be done through the kiosk, the kiosk would purely be an exploratory tool and along each page we would then encourage the user to continue their journey with the designated Abu Dhabi App
For Transit passengers in particular, there is a time concern. We had planned to show time-specific itineraries so that passengers coming from the airport could see the total time needed for each itinerary including travel time to and from the airport.
For those in transit, there would be two CTA's on the homescreen: "Explore all Categories" and "Do I need a VISA". This would be an easy way for travelers to find out if they qualify for Visa on Arrival or perhaps they would find out they wouldn't need a visa at all. This would incentivise travelers to hope out and see the city for their transit time.
Three sub call to actions most likely to the case for travelers: Hunger, sleepiness, curiosity. Copy that is friendly and approachable to show that Abu Dhabi is there to guide you along your adventure and help you whatever you may need.
Detail pages would include a "How to get there" section which would then promote the Abu Dhabi Taxi Service, Careem, UBER and local transport with a QR code to download each respective app.
The bottom navigation would include "Start Again" which in the case the screen has not yet already refreshed, would allow a new user to reset the favourited items. At any time the user would have the opportunity to contact an agent (By call or by whatsapp) who could help them through their journey.
We all know when traveling to a new country there are many unanswered questions about things like culture, etiquette and currency. The user could easily find all this information in the navigation bar at any time throughout the kiosk experience.
